This Net Art piece was envisioned as part of a larger framework that allowed nodes on a network to send and receive data via microcontrollers over WiFi. We worked individually as well as within a group and the theme was “Cyber Greenhouse,” where we each created “flowers” made of repurposed and found circuitboards, computer peripherals and inner components of tech devices. The flower I designed as part of the interactive system consisted of barebone circuitboards; dupont wires, a 8×8 LED matrix, 24 pixel ring and 2 microcontrollers. An Arduino Uno and Adafruit ESP32 Feather were used to drive the experience that connected via WiFi to other nodes that made up a larger network spanning 3 floors of the building, it was deployed along with more than 2 dozen other flowers and interface devices. My approach was to make the flower seem indiscernible from a circuit, but still resemble a flower using a cyberpunk aesthetic.
