This IxD explores stories of the Arawaks, an Indigenous South American and Caribbean tribe, whose lands have been fragmented and stories erased from the maps we inherited. Aidy’s Story begins with you exploring, uncovering signals, and transforming them into future artifacts and speculative designs. I want to use this as a jumping off point for future imaginations for indigenous and first nation individuals so they can see themselves in future centric and Sci-Fi media; where they are under-represented as popular culture is saturated by hegemonic groups in power.

Marginalized groups and their stories are often left untold, but this IxD is a call to action, to start or continue to speculate about possible futures or to imagine artifacts to help Aidy imagine a world where we don’t relive the past genocides, cultural erasures or colonization. In future iterations I would like to target audiences in Cultural and Educational institutions like a museum or youth center.

I’m also exploring a touch control interface for future iterations. The character Aidy is based off of my 3 year old son Aiden, who’s mother is an Arawak. I want to create a world where he can imagine himself and his family, as well as other first nation people well into the future.
